How will an intelligence briefing grow your business?

I’m sure Brian and Omi can relate with me when I say “Being a part of an Executive Staff can be challenging at times”. It is a world of building high level relationships, precise time management, and READING. I refer to it as an intelligence briefing; I use this term because you have to imagine Presidents have to read many briefings; regarding the economy, homeland security, the type of dog to get for your daughters, etc. We read many articles and blogs pertaining to our endeavor. How will an intelligence briefing grow your business?
Daily, Brian emails us a Blog-o-day. The blog always is relevant and varies in length. Many times it comes from our Twenty Something friend, Monica O’brien. Yesterday, the blog was courtesy of UK journalist Kate Hilpern, expressing the frustration of corporate lingo in the UK. In addition to the blogs, Brian and I are fans of business magazines; Success, Black Enterprise, Entrepreneur, Harvard Business Review, The Journalist, among others. We are all fans of books on faith, personal growth, and personal growth through faith!
Rules of Intelligence Briefings:
1) Everyone must participate in the conversation – it is important we all provide our feedback the proposed intelligence briefing. EVERYONE HAS A VOICE!!
2) Choose something that has to do with your business – all of our blog-o-day blogs regard ways to help young professionals communicate effectively in the corporate environment
3) Choose something that has NOTHING to do with your business – it is always good to take a break and read about a sports figure, political issue, food
It is important to find what presentation style is most comfortable to you or how your like to read your intelligence briefings. Brian, Omi, and I (@JoshuaEPorter) have different reading styles when it comes to our presentation. Brian is sit in front of the computer and read, Omi stays on her Blackberry, and I am hard copy and old fashioned. Of course our style varies depending upon the environment.
1) Know your reading style
2) Let it be known
3) Know your colleagues’ reading styles…and respect them
Reading is definitely fundamental, we all learned that at an early age. When running a business, reading goes from fundamental to necessary.
