How will patience save your business?

My apologies to Brian, Omi, and more importantly you, the reader, or as I like to call you, the future business leaders of the world…for not posting the blog yesterday. There were technical difficulties with my computer, but today everything seems to be running smoothly. I had to patiently save my topic for this blog until today. Patience is truly a virtue and even on a larger scale, there is a season for everything. How will patience save your business?
Saturday, I attended an all day Virginia Leadership Institute training. The Virginia Leadership Institute was founded by young professional Krysta Jones, with the purpose of (in brief) increasing the number of minority elected officials in Virginia. One of the lessons underscored was timing and patience. How everything in politics is about timing and patience. If President Obama ran a different time, in our country’s history, he may not have been as successful. His message of Change came at the perfect time. It is the same for the doing business, it is the same for our endeavor. With students continuing to have a passion to gain a higher education, a 10.9% increase 18-24 year old professionals in the corporate environment, over the last five years, and the job market becoming increasingly challenging, now is the perfect time to help them communicate effectively within the corporate environment.
Not only did Brian, Omi, and I had to use patience when brining the concern to the forefront, but we also have to be patient while growing the business. We have a ton of great ideas everyday on what to put on the site, how we should market the business, etc. The patience comes in when contacting subject matter experts when to help build the site build the site. The time it takes to trademark and legalize the business model. And most important the patience, to come, while the awareness of the site and the site in general grows and reaches the masses.
Patience is one of the most overlooked but essential keys to effective communication within the corporate environment. I was speaking with a mentor on Thursday, who explained to me that Generation Y does not know when to speak and not to speak. I will provide you with the same response I provided him, and share my experiences and how I empathize with Generation Y in this regards.
When to speak and not to speak:
About a year ago, I found myself in a meeting with high level officials. They were having a meeting to discuss the future state of the organization. I was just sitting in on the meeting, but the top executive asked me what I thought about where the organization was and the future state. I gave him my honest opinion, not knowing I was badmouthing some of the lower executives in the room…not a positive outcome (I received an earful) but lesson learned.
